Eldon was born in the Crown Point community of Winfield in 1953. He was raised attending Crown Point Schools and graduated from Crown Point High School in 1971. After high school he voluntarily enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was honorably discharged upon completion of his duty in 1974.
In 1976 Eldon joined the Crown Point Police Department where he stayed for a career spanning thirty five years. While there Eldon attained the ranks of patrol shift corporal, patrol shift sergeant/supervisor, Detective Bureau Supervisor, Detective Sergeant, Detective Bureau Commander and Deputy Chief of Police on two separate occasions.
In 1999 Eldon was elected to the Center Township Board for a four year term. Two of those years he served as Center Township Board President. In 2003 Eldon was elected Center Township Trustee where he served for ten years until 2013 when he was chosen by caucus to fill a vacated seat on the Lake County Council.
Eldon represents the 7th District which is the largest land sized district in Lake County. Each council district contains approximately a population of 85000 residents. The northern border of the 7th District is roughly 101st Avenue and it goes south to the Kankakee River. It is bordered on the east by the Lake/Porter County line and the west by the Indiana/Illinois State Line.
Eldon is Chairman of the Lake County Council Budget Committees representing the Cooperative Extension, Property Tax Board of Appeals, Soil Conservation, Fairgrounds, Emergency Management/Local Emergency Planning Committee, Local Roads & Streets and Community Mental Health Centers. He serves on Budget Committees for the Treasurer, Assessor, Commissioners, Public Works, Council, Highway Department, Sheriff, Circuit Court, Township Assessors, Legislative Committee and Capital Committee. Eldon has Lake County Council appointments to the county Plan Commission, Data Board, Jail Oversight Committee, Lake County Study Commission on Veterans Affairs, Real Estate Disposal Committee, Common Construction Wage Committee, Court Security and has served as past member to NIRPC and Lake County Public Safety Communications Commission.
